Return in time 100
years to this quaint New England Fishing Village and visit the
unspoiled coast of Maine. Watch the sunrise over the Campobello
Island, take long walks on the beach, or visit one of the four
lighthouses in the area; the one at Quaddy Head State Park is
on the U.S. Postage Stamp; the one on Campabello Island is most
interesting because when the tide is out you may walk on the
ocean floor (like Moses in the Red Sea) climbing down an iron
ladder imbedded in the rocks and you must leave the light house
before the tide comes in. It is a unique experience you will
never forget. Also visit the eternal beauty of Quaddy Head State
Park; the easterly most point in the United States. Lubec is part of the Bay of Fundy which has a tidal difference of 27 feet; the greatest tidal difference of any place in the world. That means two billion cubic feet of water go in and out twice a day; more water than goes down the Mississippi River in two weeks. When the tide is out, watch the clam diggers, digging for clams or join in yourself by going to the Town Hall and getting a license. |
